About the session

The weekend and single-entry version of Shibari 1.0. Designed for beginners who want to learn enough to create and participate in engaging rope sessions and master the core fundamentals of shibari, so you can sign up for the semi-suspension course you may be longing for. In a small, role-balanced group, we start from scratch on Saturday and add a foundational element or practice step by step. You swap partners for each new exercise. Exceptions to this rule are made if you register together. Single applications are accepted on an alternating basis: one rigger, one bunny. A switch is approved as soon as another switch registers. Program Saturday 1. Consent in rope 2. Tension: Get comfortable with the rope and explore how tension in the rope, and between you and your partner, creates sensation. Lunch 3. Safety: Time for the safety knot and where to place, and not place, rope and knots to prevent injury. Sunday 4. Structure: We begin tying classic harnesses and learn the function and possibilities of friction locks. Lunch 5. Creation: We discuss intention and expectations in relation to consent, and then practically explore what influences a rope session in a desired direction beyond rope, knots, locks, and structures. Teacher: PollyPerhaps & Friends. I, Polly, will rotate assistant teachers depending on the theme of the day, giving you the opportunity to meet a selection of wonderful people from the Gothenburg rope scene. A warm welcome to the world of rope.

Practical information

  • Rope: Riggers and switches need to bring two 8-meter ropes and two 4-meter ropes. Borrow from a friend who already practices shibari or purchase at Nawa Studio. (Feel free to pre-order by emailing info@studionawa.se.)
  • Ropes must be made of jute, hemp, or linen (natural materials) and intended for shibari. Do not buy from a local sex shop or hardware store. Safety shears are available on site.
  • Clothing: Soft, form-fitting clothes that are comfortable to sit on the floor in. If you are being tied, choose a sleeveless top.
  • Lunch, fruit, and refreshments are included in the course fee.

Rules

  • Please arrive on time. Doors open at 09:30, and the course starts at 10:00 sharp.
  • No open drink containers are allowed in the rope room.
  • Ask for permission before touching another person's body or belongings.
  • Negotiation takes place before tying. We use safe words: red = stop and return to a neutral position, yellow = pause and communicate, green = all good / keep going. Let each other know during negotiation if you are unfamiliar with using safe words.
  • RACK (Risk Awareness Consensual Kink) applies at all events arranged by WCK. If you are new to rope, feel free to check out this link: https://shibaristudy.com/programs/safety-course
