About the session
Semisuspension This weekend course is for those who want to take the step from the floor into semisuspension. We will cover everything from risk assessment to your first actual semisuspension, with the goal of making you feel confident with and in the ropes. Day one focuses on the fundamentals: risk assessment and safety, uplines and lock-offs, as well as your first semisuspension. We will go through how to manage tension and weight distribution across multiple uplines, which harnesses work for semisuspension, and how to handle a body in the air from both the rigger's and model's perspective. We combine different harnesses and work with body and uplines, giving you the basics of body movement and how harnesses and uplines can be combined. For this workshop, you need to be able to tie a stable chest harness. If you do not have this skill, there is an opportunity to learn a simple hands-free chest harness during the first day. Day two is about what makes a session come alive: communication, role division, and interaction between the person tying and the person being tied. For the rope bottom: How to move in the ropes, stay present through intense ties, and let go and float away. How to influence the feel of the ropes with your body and provide feedback the rigger can use. For the rope top: How to attach and tie off suspension lines in different ways, both on others and on yourself, using your body as a tool in the session. Delivering sensation while remaining receptive to response. Additionally, how to make the suspension easier or more challenging, and using uplines both for aesthetic ties and for predicaments. About the teachers: LeChef Firm, flexible, dominant, and responsive. LeChef brings a breadth to his ropework that makes him well worth learning from. Enjoys performing and showcasing the person he ties with. Mary_deChain Thirteen years later, they remain just as passionate about teaching what they have discovered: that rope is a shortcut to getting to know others and oneself on a deeper level. On stage, they give their all in interaction with their partner. Nillaan Suspensions are Nillaan's speciality. After more than three years in an advanced suspension course with BergBorg, she has a deep and broad knowledge of various dynamics, techniques, and skills. She is a sadist well worth getting to know and experience—both as an instructor and performer. Together, they offer diverse perspectives and personal insights. They have been running introductory courses in shibari since spring 2014 and suspension courses covering various aspects since 2016.
